Whistle Wetting

Today is just a quick taste of what we did over the past 10 days, I will detail more through out the week.

keuka_monday sunrise 9
:: learned that I like sunrises more than sunsets and I can even tell you why.
:: lakes can do wonders and jumping into then never ever gets old.
:: no matter how hard you try, you can't force rejuvenation.
:: if Lauren had a million dollars, she would save it buy "precious things".
:: I still can't take a fish off a hook.

keuka_monday water 2
:: there are still places where you can get 10cent candy.
:: small libraries rock, but are only open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 2pm.
:: sleeping on cottage floors does bad things to one's back, as does bacterial infections in one's kidney.
:: it sucks when trips get cut short.
:: learned that there is pain worse than child birth and I survived it. (and yes, I am pretty much better now, THANKS!)

keuka_sunday water 21
:: gathering with like minded people is amazing.
:: glass beads hold magic powers over me and can get me to pull out my credit card when I really shouldn't.
:: there are cucumbers coming out our wazoo over here.
:: sometimes ya just need to cry stuff out.
:: my eyelashes are really fluffy sometimes.

Biking & Berries ~ Random Mondays

dad and girls
dad riding
:: That's what I call a full weekend. Cleaning Friday, Lacrosse tournament Saturday, Baseball game Saturday, Father's Day bike ride with Dad on Saturday, family picnic on Saturday, plus company for the US Open Golf on Saturday evening, (my stars!), Father's Day berry picking and celebrating on Sunday!!
:: I keep getting the hiccups, yesterday and today.
:: Just two days of school left!! Time to plan some fun summer activities.
:: Hubby just came by my desk to give me a kiss :X (made me lose me train of thought! LOL)
:: Really really hopeful that things will be happening this week with my "secret project".
:: Gonna whip up some "Urban Ornaments" (a la my friend Cindy Wimmer in Easy Wire) for the kids' teachers. It's a great, last-minute project.
:: OH MY... it is serious berry season around here. We have cherries, and strawberries, and blueberries... Lauren is so excited to make jam with me this week!!
:: I finished knitting my Featherweight Cardigan, photos to come.
:: Did I tell you those top photos are from a bike ride with my Dad and sister? We rode the trail along the Erie Canal from Fairport to Pittsford NY.
:: Must find a good local swimming hole for the kids. Apparently there is a private pool on our street! But it costs $1300 to join and $550 a year to use. That is just crazy.
:: I love having all the windows in my house wide open.
:: is tomorrow really the last day of school?
:: OMG... go make this right now, in a blender: add a hand full of blueberries fresh from the garden, 5 strawberries picked by kids, 5 sweet cherries from the highest branch, some Simply Orange with Mango juice, and a few ice cubes... best breakfast drink ever. No sugar added.
:: I had a HUGE glass order come in on Friday, I can't wait to show you all the colorful goodness in that box.
:: Here's to the official start of Summer.

She Is Seven

picky purple pixie 9
Oh how long she has waited to finally be seven!! This birthday, by far, has taken the longest to get here, for her. LOL. We have a game we play as a family called "Whoonu" (it is a Cranium game!), and who-goes-first is decided by which birthday comes next. Since her last birthday, she has had to wait through Daddy's birthday, Pappy's birthday, Andrew's birthday, Gee's birthday, Jacob's birthday, and Momma's birthday before it was her turn to go first. You can see why it felt like it was taking forever.

I wanted to put together a list of things about Lauren at seven that I don't want to forget. I thought I would share them with you.

*Current nicknames are: Missy Do, Bugaboo, Miss Rotten, and LaurenAnnie
*She can read up a storm. There isn't a word she can't decode. Her favorite book today is One Fish Two Fish, by Dr. Suess.
*She is a professional dillydaddiler, she can make molasses look fast.
*Lauren loves to sing and every song she makes up uses the word love.
*She gives the biggest kisses on my cheeks and forehead. Almost too many, lol, Daddy could get jealous.
*She likes to sleep on the floor in my room when she is sick.
*Definitely a night owl, and not a morning person.
*Current Best Friends are: Ryan, Samantha, Sophia, and Bryanie
*She still lets me twirl her when she walks down aisles.
*She has been riding a two wheeler for years now, but still isn't confident about swimming.
*She loves Jacob more than anyone else in the house.
*My Dad likes to tell her she has a million dollar smile and a twenty-nine cent frown. That makes her smile.
*Lauren knows her mind and can be very very ornery, especially in the morning.
*She still insists she will be a bike maker and artist when she grows up. And when she is done with that, she will teach 1st grade.

I could go on and on, I love her so much. I will just say... HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOO!!!

A Snowy Afternoon

First... in case you missed it... there is a Totally Twisted Giveaway going on!! Go leave a comment!!

Now... to how we spent the last few hours...
snow day 3
snow day 5
snow day 6
snow day 7
snow day 10

...freezin' our bums off at the park!! We had a quick 6inches of snow last night that made for perfect sledding conditions today. I made a big thermos of cocoa and out we ventured. The boys had some awesome wipe outs trying to jump off a ramp on their snow boards!! And Lauren was zipping down the hills on her boogie board. All our snowy clothes are drying by the fire as I type. It was a really great afternoon.

I'm A Ravelympian

ravelympics lauren's yarn

Over on Ravelry, they do something fun during the Olympics. It's called "Ravelympics". To play, you pick a project (or two or three), cast on during the opening ceremonies, and hopefully, finish before the end of the closing ceremonies. Then, you win a fun medal to place on your Ravelry project page to show you competed (now the competitive side of me would love the have "winners" and gold, silver, and bronze medals awarded, but that could get ugly and Ravelry is a happy place).

This is my first Ravelympics, and with Lauren's birthday coming up at the end of March, I figured her Momma-made gift would make for the perfect project. The project is The Pixie Dress, a sweet whimsical crocheted dress what will look wicked super cute over jeans and a tee shirt (perfect for layering in these cold months). The yarn is Dream In Color Knitosophy in the color called "Strength" (kinda pricey, but thankfully, WEBS discounts the more you buy, and this yarn is superwash!). You enter your projects in different events like "Lace Luge" or "Cable Cross Country". I entered my Pixie Dress in the Lace Luge event and the Junior Olympics event (jr meaning made for a child).

I had fun casting on while watching the ceremonies. I have been crocheting since I was a little girl, and although I have to look up in the back of the magazine how to do each stitch (cause my mom just showed us how to do it, we didn't know the real names for stitches) it goes really quick. It can be so mesmerizing, really... almost hypnotic. The way you wrap the yarn, dive into the stitch, grab and pull through... do it a thousand times and tell me you weren't seein' double and nearly asleep.

Anyway, I am a little more than half way through the skirt already and thanks to my friend Lindsey's husband, she is convinced I am making her a table cloth, LOL. You can see why I had purple on the brain last week, yes? And speaking of which... the kids couldn't be off school at a worse time. I am feeling so inspired right now. I have lots of ideas brewing... I really wish I was in the studio. Oh well, February Break is just a week. They will be back in school soon enough. And, until then... I have a project to finish.
